John co-founded Design House in 2007 after building a career with respected residential design firms throughout North Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from East Carolina University, with a concentration in drafting and design. Although his original studies focused on Industrial System Design, he discovered environmental design and architecture near the end of college. This allowed him to turn his lifelong interest in art, drawing, and creativity into a career. After graduating, John joined a leading residential design firm in Raleigh. He later relocated to Wilmington to work with a national residential design company before stepping out on his own in 2004 and co-founding Design House in 2007. His architectural style experience includes coastal, modern, French Country, Georgian, Spanish, Mediterranean, and Caribbean-inspired homes. His projects range from smaller residential designs to large custom waterfront properties. John focuses on exterior architecture, proportion, accuracy, and construction details. He believes a successful home begins with a functional floor plan and continues through a carefully designed exterior. Every plan produced by Design House goes through an in-house quality-control process to confirm that the foundations, walls, windows, floor plans, and elevations work together correctly. John finds it especially rewarding to see a finished home remain true to the original design. Outside of work, he enjoys attending church, golf, ECU athletics, yard work, boating, and spending time with his wife, Ashley, and their three children.
